A microsite for Privacy international

This project was requested by Privacy International in a call for tenders for the campaign "Time to deliver answers".

The project initial request consisted of a webiste they would be able to configure in their Drupal back office to deliver recommendations on transparency and explainability for algorithmic decisions at work to gig economy platforms such as Uber, Deliveroo, Just eat,...

The solution we built enables them to generate one microsite to deliver technical recommendations for each next campaigns.
We use Drupal content management system to set meta-data on dedicated resources in order to mimic how a complete website solution would serve the files and SEO parameters.

Our Grist widgets

Grist is an open source project with a developing community, they are a far more efficient and instinctive alternative to Microsoft Excel or Google Spreadsheets.

We like to contribute to this community by building Widgets to use directly in the app next to your handcrafted tables, these are tools we use for ourselves and share with others.

As Grist itself, they are also implemented in our open source products catalog, which means we have processes in place to host, maintain and configure the solution for your teams.

This catalog is a part of our mutualized IT department offer which also includes training, on-demand support, updates and partnering with you to propose new features to the editor.

Caroster

Caroster is an easy and free app to organize group carpooling for an event, it is fully open source and, thanks to our work, enables anyone to contribute to its translation.

This app was made before founding Servant Cities, for Octree, a startup studio based in Geneva that specializes in Decidim hosting and building softwares for engaged local businesses or circular economy actors.

During this project, we provided technical expertise to build human friendly translation workflows and paired with expert designers to create interactive maps and human friendly translation workflows.

We also provided support to the app's users and helped the company comply with data protection laws in Switzerland and the European Union.

Decidim

Back in our time at Octree, we also contributed to Decidim and it's hosting service Voca.

Decidim is a civic tech that helps citizens, organizations and public institutions self-organize democratically at every scale.

We helped to craft participation strategies, troubleshoot issues, managed ongoing compliance for different platforms or even implemented the maps of Decidim Geo for the city of Zurich.

We also designed a template for the organization of citizen assemblies following the Assembly Guide an amazing resources published by DemocracyNext in support to OECD work on Open. government.

Decidim is not a part of our open source products catalog and therefore we do not host it for you. There is Voca for that.

However, we can connect you with the right people for your Decidim project and provide complementary services such as:

  • Content management on your decidim platform

  • Technical support

  • Strategic support

  • Or develop softwares using your platform's data

Our work before Servant Cities

Our founder, Simon, previously worked for NGOs, Hospitals, Schools, City departments and housing projects.

While he didn't have the opportunity to disclose all his work, the softwares he built genuinely improved the lives of thousands people and sometimes saved some.

We believe they would have helped even more if they had been released in open source licences.

These projects led to grow empathy for public servants and experience working with them, very aware of unadressed challenges, founding our company has always been something he wanted to do so he could help to a bigger extent.

As Jennifer Pahlka would say "It's easy to complain about government, but more satisfying to help fix it".
